WAG WELSH LANGUAGE MEASURE VOTE TODAY : Really Making 'Cymraeg' Truelly An Official Language, I support but two caveats to consider.

I will go along with that and believe it or not in this instance support the CyIG campaign and the ammendment being put forward to WAG by Bethan Jenkins AM. Just two Caveats, the first that Cultural Nationalists fully appreciate that Wales is heading for a long duration of Socio - Economic decline as a distinct possibility. It's one thing to pass laws, it's another thing to make them work, in this case regards sustaining 'Yr Hen Iaith'. Have any laws and legislation done that so far? Just look at S4C and the lack of use of present 'Cymreag Services' and I often wonder if Bilingual Adverts and lucrative Western Mail bilingual WAG supplements actually make much difference? Then there's the matter of youth, not least those in 'Ysgolion Cymraeg' not useing 'Cymraeg' outside School, it's a big problem! Then there is the matter of a declining native birth rate and a rising inward migration, unemployment and depopulation will do more to undermine the sustainability of 'Cymreag' more than any law in it's favour.

On top of this there is an historical fact that Languages that survive best are the languages that become the language of the Market Place and Commerce. In this area, see below and one notes the relationship of English and commerce but of course also it became much a racist ideology used by Imperial educators missionaries to have natives reach God via English or Spanish. In Wales our own Welsh Victorian Capitalists with need for an English Speaking Workers to manage and run their Native Capitalist Industry as much contributed to the advance of English as the Blue Books 1848 contributed to it's decline. Then there is the matter of Education, was it the Language 'Murder Machine' as in Ireland, not quite but still what of the 'Welsh Not'. Keeping in mind that this was being carried out in Welsh Schools in which largelly 'Cymraeg' speaking teachers were the norm.

Welsh Not - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Welsh Not or Welsh Note was a punishment system used in Welsh schools in the late 19th and early 20th century to dissuade children from speaking Welsh. ...

Cymraeg survived as from the 16th century agianst all odds in main because it was hi - jacked by the Tudors to advance the Protestant Reformation. So from this time up to the 1905 Welsh Religious Revival 'Cymraeg' become well served by having a Protestant Religious Ideology as solid base. The decline of Religion marks also a speedy decline in 'Cymraeg', that's a fact. It's contemporary revival being as much a post war 'Baby Boomer' Socio - Economic as 'Cultural Concern much here can be simarly identified with Post War Feminism, Gay rights and Negro Civil Rights. In all three cases it is largelly the middle classes that have benefitted greatly, the same applies to 'Cymraeg'. Now the challenge will be, if the required legislation is passed what will be done to not only keep it a language of the home and hearth but also the language of the Work and Market Place, not least 'Yn Y Fro Cymraeg' first and foremost not the cushy hang outs of 'Pontcanna Patagonians' in Caerdydd or where ever? So I suggest to Plant Crachach/CyIG, time for you to give up your day job and get back to the land with well to the fore in the mind, that if you want 'Cymraeg' to survive then it is 'The Economy Stupid'.

This does not mean more 'Free Hand Outs' to sustain 'Cymraeg' making it equal does not mean never ending queing up for more and more gravy train grants, so big thinks required here. Thinks not on how to get more grants but how to make 'Cymraeg' Socio - Economically Independant or guess what 'Cymraeg' becomes even more the platform and tool of Government. Yes I said more as in part it's been that way since the 'Seventies' and particularly after Thatcher bought out the Crachach Newydd with S4C, true! The second 'caveat', I most certainly do not agree with the idea of making not getting a 'Cymraeg' service equal to being physically disadvantaged. In sense that if a 'Cymraeg' service is not provided it could become a lucrative business for compensation lawyers, such would open up a mind field of 'rip off' scheming forcing Local Authorities, Hospitals and Businesses to pay out large sums in main to Lawyers. That will be of no advantage to Wales, our communities or Socio - Economic survival nor sustain 'Yr Hen Iaith' in the long term, would it? No! So lets make this matter more clear up front so we know what Wales is getting into. Now, see info below:
