From there to where is one of the reasons this campaign is proposed as I consider this be an appropriate moment in time to raise the matter of the deplorable state of Welsh interest English Language TV in Wales. Both HTV and particularly BBC Wales being of great concern in pathetic provision of English Language Welsh Interest Television. Really is about time that the Welsh got parity with the television provided for 'Y Cymry', after all we are TV licence payers too. This is not a matter of 'Y Cymry' getting less but rather the Welsh get more, not least in big budget substantial productions as for example the recent S4C production Pen Talar. What does BBC Wales produce as example Dr Who, 'Casualty', 'Upstairs and Downstairs' and Merlin all in main produced to serve an Anglo - American Audience.

Merlin might be considered to be Welsh but it is not, as you will see by reading the below:

That's allright if profits were spent on some big Welsh/Wales interest stuff as Rape of Fair Country or Angel Moutain or why not dramatize Catrin Collier novels, after all you have bought the rights on such as a June 2002 Newspaper feature states. So what happened?

So where is Wales/Welsh Drama theme interest other than Torchwood I cannot think of much that BBC or ITV Wales produces of a Wales/Welsh Theme interest other than Sports, Nature and Country Side walks by TV celebrities. Not even a programme similar to S4C's Pawb ei Farn which has led to a rediculous situation and suggestions as below:
Another possibility would involve having a simultaneous translation facility available for non-Welsh-speaking representatives of True Wales on programmes like S4C’s Question Time-style debate show Pawb a’i Farn (Everyone has an Opinion), so they could understand the questions and debate.
They would make their contributions in English.
No campaign supporters fear 'backlash' if they speak out in WelshWalesOnline - Martin Shipton - 1 hour ago ... to participate in programmes about the referendum, scheduled for March 3. ... True Wales on programmes like S4C's Question Time-style debate show Pawb ... Why no Wales/Welsh Pawb a'i Farn or Question Time type of programme, one is due to be put out by BBC Wales in New Year but only as a short term measure regards Assembly Referendum. Plaid Cymru in particular has been very foolish not campaigning on behalf of Welsh/Wales Interest TV, not least a Welsh/Wales Pawb a'i Farn for failiure here excludes an huge number of Welsh People from feeling part of a Wales/Cymru Plaid Cymru wishes for. For face facts the majority of Welsh/Wales people are excluded from being part of a Wales they live, work and vote in, other than via BBC Wales Radio. For most part that's Sport and Celebrity driven although I am thankful for Owen Money on Saturday and String of Perals on a Sunday. Plus, BBC Wales TV/Radio presenters of news and current affairs get a big OK from me, although far too often the content of Radio Disciussions all too often avoid that which might get too 'Nationalists' plus I get the impression that Nationalists seem to be blanked from radio talk in participation and the often more Brit, moderate and occaisionally the more banal are invited to speak on Phone in programmes. |
This proposed campaign seeks to see established a devolved community based Cymru/Wales National Public TV Service with programmes in Cymraeg, English and also as apportinate minority languages of Cymru/Cymreig and Wales/Welsh Interest. Below I set out 10 Points for consideration around which a campaign could develope, as follows:
1: Get rid of S4C and establish a Provisional Authority to run it.
2: WAG begins to implement a full inquiry into S4C and Welsh TV in general.
3: I am not happy with this Anglo - Welsh BBC Wales Media City in Bae Caerdydd.
4: Very concerned that E.L. Welsh Interest Programmes on BBC Wales are going to suffer.
5: If a New Cymraeg Channel is to emerge with E.L. Programmes, these not be Anglo - American stuff but programmes of E.L. Welsh Interest.
6: I favour a Cymraeg Channel being based outside Caerdydd in rural Cymru Cymraeg.
7: Such be devolved/decentralised and communalised as much as possible.
8: Personally, I would like to see established a National Cymraeg/Welsh Public Service TV set up linked to local Newspapers, inc Paperau y Bro based on a Coorperative venture engaging community groups and colleges and community cultural expression etc.
9: I do not condone any further finnancial cuts be placed on Cymraeg TV, such gets what is appropriate needs and economic conditions allow.
10: Related to above and much more, a New Welsh Film Industry needs to be set in place to provide films in both languages for the above and World Sales. However, please no more pet project films or films of minority interest culturally or class wise. First and foremost we need movies that are going to put 'Bums on Seats' world wide and make lots of money not make no money and are continuosly hawked/junketed around Film Festivals year after year. Starting off, lets make 'Rape of the Fair Country' and 'Angel Mountain' plus the biggie on Owain Glyndwr at long last, well those are my suggestions other than these lots of Horror Films that's what puts 'Bums on Seats' and makes money.

To conclude lets explain some short hand terms I will be useing, I hate useing that term 'Anglo - Welsh' when describing or referring to English Speaking Native Wales, that is people indigenous to Wales who do not speak the native language 'Cymraeg'. The term Anglo - Welsh was very much a contemporary literary invention now being abandoned by the 'literati' themselves and about time too! Though what has replaced it is not appropriate to my idea of use to apply more generally to describe 'English Speaking Wales/Welsh', over time since Anglo - Norman Conquest of this Country describing usually the East and South as 'Marcher Wallia'

So, lets take it a step further beyond just a literary convention and apply it more generally to those of us who do not totally 'buy in' to a 'Cymry Cymru Cymraeg' identity for one reason or another, as myself! Suffice to say now that I am neither happy about the long winded term 'Welsh writting in English' being otherwise generally applied as say, 'Welsh speaking English'. I hence shall in all such areas just use the term 'WELSH', a description rooted in and old Saxon word:

Suffice hence when I referr to English Speaking Wales/Welsh, I will simply use the terms 'Wales/Welsh' whilst those who speak 'Yr Hen Iaith' will be referred to as Cymry and their Country real as in territory aka 'Y Fro Cymraeg' or 'pura Wallia' or in the immagination, as well useing terms Cymreig/Cymraeg as they apply.
