NANTYRAST/TYLLWYD 36 TURBINE
WINDFARM PROJECT
Where ?---on land farmed by Nantyrast (Alun Lewis),Garthynty(Lewis) and Tyllwyd
(Meirion Jones) and Crown land. Sponsored by Infinis (windfarm experts based in
Scotland).
They will make millions, ruin our landscape and our communities for at least 25
years, and leave with their money having tried to bribe us with a community
grant to support their proposal. They also plan to hire well connected
consultants, and to influence politicians to grant the necessary planning
consents. Infinis have invested a lot in planning this project for months and
are now surveying the site
How many?—36 wind turbines plus large pylons to
take electricity down to Pumsaint to the National Grid across the beautiful
Cothi and Fanagoed valleys
How big?—140-150 metres (480ft approx)
* as large as the 40 turbines planned
at Brechfa
* much taller than the tallest
building in Wales (in Swansea, 107mts, 29
floors)
* 50% taller than London’s
Big Ben (96mts), taller than the London
Eye (135mts)
What are the problems?
*Turbines will be visible for more
than 25 miles ruining the landscape for a generation
* noise of 36 turbines will be heard as far
as Pumsaint, Caio, Ffarmers, Rhandirmwyn and Cilycwm
* health issues for residents (children in
particular). Ask the residents of Gwyddgrug
about their terrible misery and ill health created by the smaller
Alltwallis windfarm
* value of land and houses affected will fall
dramatically (many may become unsalable)
* grid connection with tall pylons (60ft high
approx) will blight the valleys. Infinis refuse to pay Western Power for the
electricity to go underground thereby avoiding pylons
* up to 2 years of construction with major
road access and traffic problems, possibly up to 48 lorries a day, large tree
felling, logging traffic, stone haulage and disruption to us all
* if this project proceeds next most likely
windfarm site is on Mynedd Mallaen.
