CARDIGAN COASTAL FOOTPATH and Cardigan Island Theme Park Issue.

.
Dear Editor, Your correspondent, Gareth Jones of Powys [ letters 10/3] legitimately complains that Welsh Assembly Government , [WAG],Environment Minister, Jane Davidson and First Minister , Carwyn Jones , have never declared their vested interest as Vice Presidents of the Ramblers Association in Wales , whilst legislating WAG's own Coastal Access Bill for the benefit of Ramblers and to the detriment of farmers and other coastal businesses. Yet these are the very same politicians telling the Welsh electorate that they are fit to be given full law-making powers ! Even though three Welsh MPs ,Huw Irranca Davies [Ogmore] , Roger Williams [ Brecon and Radnor] and Nick Ainger [ West Carms and S Pembs] were the architects of the Coastal Access Bill for England , Welsh Ministers ,aka Rambler Cymru leaders , will not rubber-stamp it for Wales because they have their own Rambler agenda. The English Bill does not allow public access into "coastal parks and gardens" .Yet WAG refuse to adopt this. Why?? Regarding the Ceredigion Coast Path, I can confirm that the Ramblers Association provided 2.9 per cent of the capital and that this attracted European Union match-funding through WAG. Yet the Ramblers were allowed to provide oral evidence in favour of the public path, at a Public Inquiry involving Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, Gwbert, Cardigan [ www.cardiganisland.com] conducted by a WAG Planning Inspector , even though the Ramblers are full fiscal partners in the public path. But how were they even permitted to attract EU Objective 1 match-funding for a public path? Would First Minister , Barrister and Ramblers Cymru Vice President, Mr Carwyn Jones, kindly grace us with his professional, expert legal opinion on this shady affair ? Or are the Ramblers and Welsh Ministers above the Law? If he won't say, I am taking this criminal matter to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, make no mistake !!!! To think that this is the country that once spawned the scrupulously just Laws of my forebear , King Hywel Dda, of Hen Dy Gwyn ar Daf or Whitland, recognised by leading European historians as the fairest Mediaeval Laws in Europe at the time !! Yours faithfully, Lyn James Jenkins, Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, Gwbert, Cardigan. SA431PR

Dhondup Wangchen bravely gave a voice to Tibetans under China's rule with his documentary film Leaving Fear Behind. Sadly, after finishing the film, he was arrested and his own voice was silenced. Help free Dhondup Wangchen. » As a prisoner of the Chinese government, Wangchen:
endured torture to extract a confession.
contracted hepatitis B and is denied adequate treatment.
had the lawyer he chose replaced with a government-appointed one--violating his right to choose his own counsel and denying him access to independent legal assistance. His arrest and sentence of 6 years prove that the Chinese government will not allow Tibetans any expression that opposes Chinese rule.
Tell the Chinese government to free Dhondup Wangchen and to uphold the right to freedom of expression and the right to a fair trial in future cases. »
Thanks for taking action!SamerCare2 Campaign Team

AGAINST ALL TYRANNY: Support the Aafia-Siddqui Campaign.

.

My Comment: I am happy to support this campaign, but I must add tyranny is often a two way street and whilst we hear much from 'Western Left/Liberals' complaining about European Tyranny lets us not forget the awful tyranny of the Taliban against women and girls in particular. Personally, I think the Iraq Invasion by the west was a 'war crime' but as far as Afghanistan is concerned I am having my own crisis of conscience as to what's for the best, will let you know when I have made up my mind.

WINDMILLING OF WALES Continued

.
If you click on the link below, and pass this on, I'd be gratefulWe the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to set up an independent working party of acousticians and medical experts to fully explore the problems of wind turbine noise and the health consequences as ETSU-R-97, the measurement presently used, is invalid and does not protect our communities from unbearable noise pollution. DYDD DEWI CELEBRATIONS - A National Identity Day Campaign.

. ..
Now that the annual Cardiff Dewi Day Parade appears to have sorted itself out, having been criticised by radical nationalists has not being nationalist enough and also by those who considered it too nationalist. The Parade this year whilst not up to radical nationalists wishes can hardly be said to be ''fascist'' as one correspondent to WalesOnLine was stating, the parade this year was at it's mildly patriotic best for the most part a children's parade via support of a number of Cardiff Schools.

.

Personally, I feel it best kept this way to ensure on going future success in main because I do not think this parade will ever attract the commercial and corporate support has does the St Patrick's Day parades world wide, not just in Ireland. As for the Nationalists they indeed would be doing better service to Wales if they now give up on the idea that the Cardiff parade is a 'Nationalist' event and, for one day in the themselves became mildly patriotic and put more effort into supporting Dydd Dewi Day Celebrations in their own communities with parades in as many communities as possible.
.
.
For me the jury is out on the making of Dewi Day a bank holiday for a number of reasons, not least what of the children then regards they celebrating Dydd Dewi if they are not in school? Thus if and when Dydd Dewi does become a Bank Holiday, then the holding of major Dewi Day community celebrations and parades will give the children something to be involved in. Not least perhaps with schools competing regards Welsh History, Myth and Legend Pageant contributions. Plus there needs to be as much cultural input as possible by folk musicians and dancers, indeed where are all the Mentrau Iaith and Urdd Gobaith Cymru in all this, their contributions thus far seem very minimal to say the least. Indeed the question begs to be asked where is WAG and it's Ministry of Heritage plus Vist Wales? All these bodies and other such should be leading way in all this and I suggest WAG's Heritage Department calls a national conference to discuss organisation and promotion of major Dydd Dewi Day Nationlal and community celebrations throughout the land as also a National Identity Day. I appeal to one and all to support this campaign, go for it big time!

.

This year I covered both the Cardiff and Swansea Dydd Dewi Day celebrations, Cardiff came out with best regards the parade but over all Swansea came out best in all other areas not least in decorating the town and market. Also I seen more shops in Swansea setting up Dydd Dewi displays, even if it was only daffodils in vases. On the whole more women were sporting daffodils and in both cities only spotted one leek and that was a fake. Somehow, I have the idea that the 'Six Nations' has taken over from Dydd Dewi such now being the 'national days' for the blokes. Ironically, if it were not for the British Army Welsh Regiments you would not see much of the leek on Dydd Dewi. So much more effort to be made in these directions. in due course I shall make more suggestions plus put up more fotos of Dydd Dewi 2010.

.
Last but not least, please can we have some thinking and action on some males (men & boys) 'National Costumes', at present Dai Caps and Rugby shirts and so called 'Cilts Cymry' are more than just 'Naff Taff' but perhaps out of place on Dydd Dewi, don't you think?

A COVENANT AGAINST THE WINDMILLING OF WALES May 2010 Beltane BH Weekend at Hyddgen.

.
It is thought that Owain Glyndwr and his followers fought the Battle of Hyddgen early in May 1401, this in mind why not a great gathering on Hyddgen over the May 1, 2 & 3 2010 Beltane BH weekend? I suggest the following but others will have to consider organisation and make a more definate proposal and call to action, if such is not fourthcoming then I suggest just make it an informal outing for friends or/and families or your local Anti - Windmill Campaign Groups.

.
Below are proposals only - people more involved than I in anti -windmill campaigning need to think on these proposals and organise, otherwise just do your own BH outing to Hyddgen and visit Cerrig Cyfamod Glyndwr.

.
MAY DAY 2010 BH ON HYDDGEN:

An all Wales Anti - Windmill Protest - Demonstration of Commitment - A Covenant at Cerrig Cyfamod Owain Glyndwr.

Arrive on Saturday 1st May for a Camp Glyndwr, evening of Celtic entertainments.

Save the outstanding landscape of Nant y Moch in the Cambrian MountainsAn online petition asking for the beautiful scenery of Nant y Moch in the Cambrian Mountains to be protected from a planned enormous wind power station. At this link: http://www.gopetition.co.uk/online/33775.html Country Guardian supports this petition as part of its national campaign to prevent the industrialization of our rural heritage with wind ‘farms’.* * *Save the outstanding landscape of Nant y Moch in the Cambrian Mountains25 Signatures Published by Stanley Owen on Feb 01, 2010Category: Environment Region: United Kingdom Target: Infrastructure Planning Commission, Scottish and Southern, Welsh Assembly Government, Ceredigion CCWeb site: http://www.cambrian-mountains.co.uk/ Background (Preamble):One of the last truly remote, wild and undeveloped parts of southern Britain, the Cambrian Mountains are epitomised by the iconic mountain Pumlumon, source of the Wye, Severn, and Rheidol. Its north-western flanks rise from a hilly plateau, which plunges precipitously into the Dyfi valley from a jagged escarpment, fretted by a series of majestic waterfalls. This area contains a blend of moorland hills and forests around the fjord-like waters of Llyn Nant-y-Moch, created forty-years ago to generate hydro-electric power, but now helping to produce a dramatic and unique landscape. The Countryside Council for Wales’ Landmap assessment classes this area as ‘Outstanding’ - its highest rating reserved for areas ‘of international or national importance’. In addition, much of the area forms part of the Dyfi Biosphere, a United Nations designation and the only one in Wales. The area is rich in archaeological remains and is famous in Welsh history as the setting for Owain Glyndwr’s defeat of the Anglo-Flemish forces at the battle of Hyddgen in 1401 prior to his establishment of a Welsh parliament at Machynlleth in 1404. In the nineteenth century, the writer George Borrow climbed Pumlumon in his walk around Wales. In his influential book Wild Wales, he relates how he was awestruck at the scale and beauty of this remote landscape. In 1947 the Cambrian Mountains were selected as a ‘Conservation Area’ in the Hobhouse Report; in 1965 officially proposed as a National Park; and in 1972 designated as such by the Countryside Commission, citing that the “deep wooded valleys and gorges, their rolling moorlands are colourful at all seasons and are one of Britain’s loveliest and most attractive countrysides .... attracting discerning visitors in increasing numbers who appreciate that this ‘spirit of Wales’ is the equal in beauty of many existing national parks.” Designation was never confirmed but there is currently a campaign to recognise the landscape as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (a status equal to that of a National Park). Despite this history and the quality of the landscape, the giant energy corporation Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) is planning to build an enormous wind power station dominating hill crests and forest skylines in a site area of 5 miles by 5 miles with 60 to 80 turbines each proposed to be 145m or 475 feet tall. This is one and a half times the height of Big Ben, and as much as three times the height of turbines used in much smaller earlier projects in Ceredigion. This project would industrialise views towards the Snowdonia National Park from Pumlumon (and vice-versa) and devastate the landscape character, tranquillity and recreational value of the Nant y Moch area. Why is SSE targeting this outstanding landscape? The Welsh Assembly Government has targeted seven ‘Strategic Search Areas’ for wind power stations. They were primarily defined by wind speed, while filtering out National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but did not reflect the conclusions of CCW’s Landmap assessment. Although there was a consultation process, responses were over-ruled which pointed out the scenic value of Nant y Moch and its history. Other Search Areas are larger, outside areas of national importance, and targets are being met and exceeded by several proposals in each. In its rush to meet arbitrary targets the Welsh Assembly Government is in this case promoting the destruction of a landscape of great cultural and national significance. This petition is supported by the Cambrian Mountains Society.

Do support above.
