I watched Countryfile on TV [23/10/11] with increasing anger ! Here we had an English television presenter preaching to people in Wales and asking why they objected to gigantic wind turbines and electricity pylons on their door-steps.
He asked " How do you expect electricity to reach your home ?" and "How do you expect to get electricity to where it is needed?"
I wish he had asked me those questions !
The answer to the former is that ...."Wales already generates over 4000MW without counting any of its wind energy, and only uses half of that , 2000MW , within Wales ! Therefore we have more than enough electricity in Wales already and are supplying England with 2000 MW of fossil fuel generated electricity .........PLUS ALL the sporadic wind generation from the whirling monsters scarring or beautiful hills !"
.........PLUS " We are building a new 2000MW gas-fired power station in Pembroke and a 800 MW one in Uskmouth!! !!"
Wales is awash with electricity!
The Government is awash with hypocrisy, innumeracy and illogicality !!
The answer to the latter question is........."If you want to get electricity to where it is NEEDED.......the vast population of England.....then put the wind turbines in ENGLAND.....far closer to the consumers !!"
Why should there be literally hundreds of wind turbines in Powys, North Ceredigion and Clwyd.......and NOT ONE in Shropshire, West Midlands and Herefordshire bordering Wales?
The interviewer spoke to Peter Ogden of the Council for the Protection of Rual Wales [ CPRW] , who made no mention of the hundreds of gigantic 450 feet high wind turbines proposed for Wales under the Welsh Assembly Government's [WAG] iniquitous , traitorous TAN 8 and only mentioned the pylons. There is more of a fuss about 200 ft pylons than hundreds of 450 ft wind turbines ! Why? Because they will cross jealously-protected Shropshire as they carry the stop-go Welsh electricity to Lancashire !!
No-one gives a hang about Wales !!! With no wind turbines there would be no pylons ! If Lancashire wants wind-generated electricity then put the wind turbines in the Pennines !
It's rich that Countryfile can accuse the people of Wales of NIMBYISM when the main presenter farms in the Cotswolds , where there is only one small wind turbine. We must be soft in Wales ! It is ENGLAND that needs the electricity !!
Why don't the Welsh speak out vociferously and object to their politicians?
