In the late 1950's Welsh Republican Movement I founded by Cliff Bere was to the fore in protests against the English Monarchy particularly on and about Coronation Year 1953. WRM I were not only very active but very enterprising. See Cliff Bere's Book The Young Republicans also check out he and WRM I on web. Welsh Republicanism since, there having been a WRM II, a Welsh Republican Paper 'Gwerinaethwr' were as far as I can remember not very active in campaigning against the English Monarchy in Wales.
.
However, a Welsh Socialist Republican Movement was, not least against the 1977 Jubilee. Today ''Welsh Republicanism'' as all but died out, gone to sleep or has rediculous 'Garibaldi' Royalist Republican interpretations. Whilst Radical Cultural Nationalist Movements as GyIG, Y Cyfamodwyr and Cymuned have been more concerned with Welsh Language issues than campaigning against the English Monarchy having sovereignty over our Country. Other than such ''Republicanisms'' there is also a Guardian Newspaper 'British Republicanism' which amazingly is supported by many of the Plaid Left, not really suprizing after all they really represent a posuer ''Republicanism'' than an active radical Welsh Republican reality of protest and campaigning against the English Monarchy in Wales.
..
.Since the ''Sixties'' opposition has in main come from a Patriotic Resurgent minded radical alternative nationalism as represented by Mudiad Cofiwn who took on 'Sarhad 1283 - 1983' celebration of the English Castles in Wales. In this they were quite successful and actually closed Caernarfon Castle down for an afternoon in summer of 1983, in doing so made World headlines. In this they repeated what the Patriotic Front had done in 1968 as part of their Anti - Investiture campaign. Today, in present times it is largelly a few Adfywiadwyr Gwladgarol and the ''Barrio Warriors'' of Balchder Cymru who are the main Agit - prop Agents that continue to oppose the English Monarchy and their claim to sovereignty over our country.
Radical Nationalist Anti - English Monarchy beliefs are rooted in Welsh History and particularly regards histoy of Conquest of Wales between the years 1282 - 83 - 84. The platform for such beliefs has been the 1282 Llywelyn Memorial Cenotaph at Cilmeri, and will continue to be so, despite moderate nationalists seeking to take the radical nationalist politics out of the annual Rali Cilmeri. Of which the 2010 Rali Cilmeri will be again particularly important as a call again might be made from the cenotaph mound for a march/motorcade on Caernarfon on and about 1st July 2011 - on 100th Anniversary of the 1911 Investiture to protest against any futue Investiture III of an Englishman as Prince of Wales.
.
.For historyof Welsh radical Republican and Nationalist opposition to the English Monarchy, see my Alternatve Welsh Nationalist Movement & Struggle Archive blog also there are books as to Dream of Freedom, Freedom Fighters and particularly the below recently published, a must read asap. I urge you buy or borrow and read asap, particularly Introduction, Chapter 6 Red Dragon and Red Flag re 1911 and Chapter 11 We'll keep a welcome re 1969. Says it all very well and provides lessons as to whom are your opposition (Hen Taffia) and who will betray you, do not be suprized, if your politically well read and shrewd you should have worked it out by now - Yes! 'Y Crachach' - ENGLAND's CLIENT TRIBE IN WALES!
. .
Now rather provocutivelly, the English Queen is to pay a visit to the Cultural Nationalist heartland of Gwynedd, in the middle of a British General Election, sounds dodgy to me? There have been muted calls for protest from Embassy Glyndwr and Richard Evans a member of Cymuned as spoke against the visit on the radio, but will there be protests? If left to the aforementined ''Cymric Heartland'' perhaps not, for why? just read above book, it clearly shows that in both 1911 and 1969 that the real radical opposition to the two Investitures came from the 'Socialist South' (Llanelli and Merthyr in particular). So will there be protests? If anyone intends to or, a group organises a campaign against the visit and tour from Bangor to Caernarfon to Welshpool, I suggest your read the book Rebel! Rebel! a guide to Direct Action, there are other books and websites that will be useful in providing information on how to protest effectivelly, so go seach, consider, employ and engage!!! Do let me know of any planned public demonstrations and I will help to publicise and gain as much support as might be required, so go to it! what you waiting for?

It will be very interesting to see if now the Welsh have any puff left in them to mount protest or, can they only write passive protest poetry and slavish petitions. Personally, I will consider it a disaster if there is no protests at all and for Gwynedd total dishonour under circumstances of their history and all that Wylit, Wylit Llywelyn stuff!. Not least in this year of 2010 that marks the 1660th Anniversary of the Romans leaving the British Isles in 410 AD, in wake of this Cunedda came from Scotland to found the land of the Cymry. It was his grandson Cadwallon Lawhir who raised the Red Dragon Banner and drove the Irish from Ynys Mon, it was thence Cadwallon who founded the Gwlad of Gwynedd and a Royal Line that provided Gwynedd with it's aristocratic leaders.
.
The Kings and Princes of Gwynedd who would become the 'High Kings' of Wales and in time seek to be the true native Princes of Wales. So got to hand it to the Brit Establishment they really work hard to get the timing right but for why? Many reasons no doubt, possibly it all lends support to the Unionist Parties in a 'Plaid Stronghold' during this crucial BGE, paves way for William Windsor and Investiture III. Plus keep in mind that in 2002 and her Golden Jubilee she stayed away from the percieved ''nationalist'' North West but now with her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 maybe she's paving way for a big return? Also perhaps thinking ahead to 2013, she wants to warm people up ready for a 60th Anniversary celebrative commemoration of her 1953 coronation with street parties and all that?
.
On this visit she's also heading for Welshpool, where Glyndwr fought and lost his last major battle in 1410 and where the last ''Glyndwr Rebel'' was hung in 1422, interesting yes!

Gethin Gruffydd.
